St Michael’s

This Georgian building in Paddington was built to operate a company of horse drawn Hackney coaches. The street facing elevation was domestic in scale whereas the central courtyard was determined by the dimensions of horse and carriage. The entire edifice is executed to Palladian proportions.

Our intervention was designed as a piece of double height contemporary oak furniture that generates space. The furniture contained bathrooms, utilities, a kitchen, while facilitating the preservation and repurposing of this Georgian industrial building.
