Shouldham

The Georgian terraced house is typical of its type. This small extension of bathrooms and utility spaces allows the old building to retain it’s simplicity and integrity.

The extension was to be both in a contrast and in a dialogue. We opted for a timber construction. The windows are sanded perspex boards blending seamlessly into the ship lapped surface and give the impression of a homogeneously clad box. During day time the perspex appears to be dull and we played with this, choosing to paint each board in a different shade of grey.

Internally the bathroom walls are clad from floor to ceiling with a white Perspex. The translucency reveals the random pattern, offering the impression of being within a lantern and creating a intimate and space.
